democracyGPS is a non-profit and non-partisan organization developing new ways to persuade politicians to represent voters better and to pay less attention to special interests.

Why is democracyGPS focusing on gun violence prevention in its first campaigns?

Gun violence in the U.S. is a continuing problem that is much worse than in other "rich" countries. Almost all experts agree that simple solutions like implementing universal background checks or bans on assault weapons will decrease deaths from gun violence. Most voters, whether they identify themselves as Republican, Independent, or Democratic, support these moderate solutions. However, the U.S. Congress has been unable to pass laws that enable these moderate solutions.

Many people believe that the U.S. Congress cannot pass these laws because politicians are influenced by the money and attention of the special interest groups that oppose these laws. So, we are trying to decrease the benefits this money can provide and further increase the attention politicians pay to gun violence prevention.

They will be analyzed with the answers and statements from many others to look for common beliefs and opinions.
